Snow little knitting time

I've just come back from a week at the snow, which was awesome!
Unfortunately for my many, many WIPs and this little event called the Ravellenic Games, not a lot of actual knitting went on while we were making our way through blizzards and fresh powder snow.
Aaaah, the hardships.

But I did get some knitting in on the bus. in fact, I made two washcloths that I love very much. They're knit out of vintage stash, and so far, they're holding up great.

I didn't knit further on either the mitts or the mystery KAL shawl, because my brain wasn't up for it.
I did make quite a bit of progress on the Skew socks though.

Now that I'm back, it's time to seriously get into the dye pots for Sock The Vote. Are you ready to knit along, too?

Good thoughts and long-distance hugs

My grandma is 90 years old and not doing so well at the moment.
She also lives right around the world from me.
I can't call her, since we're both no good on the phone, and the hearing issues don't help.
But I can knit.
I can knit her a squishy, comforting shawl made out of cheery, stripey Australian wool that she can wrap around herself to remind herself that she is loved, however long-distance.
I also knit this shawl on needles I inherited from her.
I hope she gets to enjoy the shawl. I hope she likes it.

Big on Stripes!

Things have been happening around here. Yarny things.
But more on that later in the week.
What's on the needles this week?
Vivian is still not done (mainly because when I have time to knit, I don't have the brain power), but I'm about half-way up the hood. The end is in sight.
Still lots of yarn left over though! Hm.

But I needed something easier to knit, so I cast on some vanilla stripey socks. Because stripes have been on my mind lately.
The yarn is Austerman Step, and it's a nice yarn, except for the flecks of dye that have sprinkled into neighbouring stripes. Not the look I was going for.

Feed Your Artists

We were going on a day trip to Geelong and I needed something new to cast on.
I'd bought a skein of Noro Kureyon while we were in Japan, and I knew it needed to be a hat.
A Starving Artist, to be precise. The pattern is by Laura Linneman, of Knit Girllls fame.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable knit. Quick, straight-forward and pretty. The yarn is interesting to work with, and the colours are just as magical as people say they are.
This may well become my new favourite hat, and that's saying a lot.
